 Pudding head

I have been waiting a long time to make this hat for someone:

yarn: Cleckheaton 8-Ply (brown and white), Dale Heilo (green),
Heirloom Easy Care (red)
pattern: Kids' Knits for Heads, Hands and Toes (Debbie Bliss)

and I think it's adorable. My daughter, on the other hand, isn't convinced:

 Nautical Tank

I had a sneak peak of this little tank on my blog a while back but all the ends to darn in saw me take some time to finish it. Good thing I made it in the 3-6m size as the bub I made it for was 10w old by the time he got it, and I had started it the night I found out he had been born!

The tank is a Debbie Bliss pattern, however I used Wendy DK supreme cottton instead of the DB stuff the pattern called for. It was just some left over I had in my stash from making a similar striped tank for my boy last summer (without a picture though). I got brave this time and added the boat, a design I sketched out on graph paper, inspired by a pic I saw in one of the Zoe Mellor baby knit books. I added buttons to the shoulder as Austy's was quite tight to get over his head and I figure a small baby is more fussy about clothes being pulled on.
I then started another one for my son for this summer, supposedly size 24-36m, but when I got to the armhole shaping I realised I didn't have enough stitches... I somehow made the 9m size! So that one has to be frogged and started over. I do love the colours I picked for it though (teal, caramel and chocolate) so hopefully that will be enough motivation to start again. I loved his knitted tank last summer and it still looks new due to the sheen on the cotton. No pilling at all.

And now we have a TTC date for number 2 baby, I might have to start on some newby knits again! Too adorable to resist!

 Someone Has To Do It!

It's been entirely too long since someone has posted on this site. And I know there are people knitting baby things out there!!!

I wish I had something absolutely fabulous to end the silence with, but all I've got are two hats. They'll do. And maybe the sight of our already-up Christmas tree will be inspiring!

#1: Cabled Baby Hat:
#2: Vine Lace Baby Hat:
Both knit for our yet-to-be-born Madeline, due December 14th! It's already very cold in Chicago, so the gray cables might just be worn home from the hospital!

All the details are on my blog at www.whitevioletknits.blogspot.com!

Happy Holiday Knitting, everyone!

 Finally finished something!

The Dragon Skin Wrap is all done and ready to be mailed off to its recipient, my college friend's 2-month-new baby daughter.

The stats are:

Size: 22" chest circumference, sized for 3-12 months.
Yarn: 3 + a quarter of a 4th ball of Filatura di Crosa Zara in pale pink (color 2502)
Needle: Size 7 (ball band calls for size 4-6 for a gauge of 23 sts/31 rows per 4"x4")

The yarn is a little lighter than the Kollage Yummy that Angela used for the sample so I went up a needle size -- especially since the stitch pattern was a little dense from all the shaping that constructs the lovely scales. In fact, when I was knitting it, I was worried that it would be a little stiff; but I figured that since it's for a very young baby, any size would do, even if it turned out slightly smaller than the published dimensions. To my happy surprise, blocking softened it quite a bit, making it drapier (and larger!) and now it's actually between the small and medium sizes -- great from a utility standpoint. With utility in mind, I didn't sew in the snap closure that I bought for the wrap, but will include it in my package to my friends so that they can decide where best to put it or whether to put it in at all.

I think my friends will be thrilled with this wrap. It's a very cute baby design (and more importantly, fun to knit!) -- a little different than the usual baby staples I've seen in pattern books and works equally well for boys as well as girls. I'm already trying to think if I have any friends with boy babies for a blue wrap!

 Knitting together a solution

My 2-month-old was recently diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip. It's one of those things that can be cured relatively easily, and we're lucky it was caught before she was mobile. Treatment is six weeks or so in a Pavlik harness:

in her harness

She's tolerating it pretty well ... our biggest concern has been keeping her warm enough (November in New England). She can't wear footed onsies or pants, and while the harness covers her feet and most of her lower legs, her little thighs have been pretty chilly.

Good thing I can knit ... I used about 40 grams of leftover sock yarn to make her some warm leggings:

leg warmers for the WB

harnessed up ... and warm

I figure she can wear them under dresses after the harness comes off.

(edited to add that I wrote up a pattern for the leggings, which can be found here.)

 Fair Isle Yoke Baby Sweater

This is my first time posting here and I've got to admit I've been sitting on this Fo for a while. It's a Fair Isle Yoke Sweater in baby size for my little guy who's due to arrive in March. I designed the yoke pattern myself, but used Elizabeth Zimmermann's formula for a baby sized yoke sweater from her book Knitting Around. I think it turned out pretty well, but I'm afraid the sleeves may be a bit short. That's my fault though, and hopefully it will turn out ok once I've tried it on an actual human!
I'm not super happy with the yarn. It's Knit Picks Swish DK superwash wool. It's very soft and I think it will be really nice against the skin, but it bled like crazy when I washed it and the white part of the yoke is now a bit pink. Hopefully that will come out with the next washing.
You can get more details and pictures at my blog, if you're interested.

 finally he can wear them!

Now that the weather is getting a little colder, my son Jakob is able to wear the knits I worked on while I was pregnant with him.

First up we have the Moss Block cardigan I designed.

Next is the Sweet Baby Cap, which is a free pattern found online. I don't have a link handy at the moment but if you Google "Sweet Baby Cap" you'll find it right away.
This is our version of the Child's Placket Neck Pullover from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. If you make this, be sure to download the errata! I will definately make this again, but I would make the body longer as I find the body and sleeves a little short, but the width is perfect for him.
Here is Jakob with his friend, Sheldon from http://www.knitty.com.
We have him here in the Froggy hat and socks set, also a free pattern online.

Lastly here he is in his Hallowe'en costume. I designed and knit this as I went along, and it was finished just in time for him to go trick or treating as SuperBaby!
I'm really sorry I don't have the links to those free patterns handy, but if you want to email me I can get them for you. You can also get all the info here at my blog.

 Cupcake Hat

This is the newest baby hat I made. The pattern is from Itty Bitty Nursery. Susan Anderson's style is so great! This was a quick knit and I used Calmer.

 Christmas Hat Take One

I knit a Christmas Tree Hat for the babe yesterday but it didn't come out as well as I had hoped.
I'm new to colorwork so my tree is more than a little wonky.
Any suggestions?
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The tree is a modified version of one of the trees from Wendy's "Baby Norgi" sweater. And by "modified" I mean I took her perfectly good design and screwed it up. I made the tree one row taller by accident and the knitting, oh the knitting, like I said before, is seriously wonky.

I'm also thinking about doing it again in all green but knitting purl stitches instead of a contrasting Christmas color, just because I can't seem to get this intarsia stuff down.

What do you think?

 Drive Thru

Here is a picture of my son Sean JUST before I weaved in the ends on his Drive Thru sweater. He was having fun tangling them all up. Though, he didn't get very far.

And voila, a finished Drive Thru. I just LOVE it. And at 2 year size, it fits Sean now. Of course I must roll up the sleeves, and it's a little big, but it does fit him, I think it will be perfect for this winter. Just for size, Sean's weight is in the 50th percentile, but he's in the 75th percentile for height.

Specs:
Pattern: Drive-Thru by Knit & Tonic Wendy Bernard
Yarn: Lion Brand Cotton Ease in Colorways 122 (Main Color),
110 (Yoke), 149 (Yoke), 100 (Yoke)
Needles: US 7 (4.5mm) & US 8 (5.0mm)
Timeline: Technically 1 week. Cast on Sunday October 21st, 2007, and was done by Sunday, October 28th, 2007 (including frogging the neck)
but only got to weave in ends yesterday, November 4th, 2007.
Modifications: I had to rip back from the neck because there was no way that it was going to fit over my 10 month old son's head and it was a 2 year size sweater. Though big on him (roll up sleeves, etc), it fits him now. So I did modifications on the neck.

I love this pattern so much I already want to cast on another one.
I blog here.

 denim overall

I've just finished denim overall.

This is my own design, but for pockets,I used the pattern HARVEY from Little Treasures by Louis Daykin.
I love denim yarn because it doesn't pill and dirt is not anxious.
More photos are here.

And I've knitted Ruffle Rib Socks from BETTER-THAN-BOOTIES BABY SOCKS
I love this zig-zag bind off on instep.
More photos are here.

And one more project,I've knitted Cable and Moss Stitch Hat from debbie bliss Baby Cashmerino book.
I started by purly white's pattern, but its depth of the hat was insufficient for my son, I had to back to Bliss's pattern.
More photos are here.
The vest that he wears together is tommy from from RYC Classic Bambino (book 12).

By the way,I washed my Sirder Snnugly Baby Bamboo vest, there was no problem unless it was handwashed.
I'll post a comment here when there is a problem washing several times.
